Even though this boss is located in the Desolation, which normally requires the ability to travel via Wurm using the Wurm Spores, it is accessible several missions sooner if you travel from Vabbi. By traveling through Vehjin Mines (from Jennur's Horde), you'll eventually reach Basalt Grotto, and from there take a round-about path (avoiding the sulfur) to reach the boss.
